Richfield Township Land Use Plan and Zoning Code Update:

In June 2025 Richfield Township was awarded a grant from the state of Ohio to update its Comprehensive Land Use Plan and Zoning Code.  The township’s current Land Use Plan was last updated in 1999.  Since last September a group of Richfield Township residents have volunteered their time to work as a steering team, under the direction of the township trustees and partnering with the township zoning committee, the board of zoning appeals, an ag subcommittee, Lucas County, and Crossroads Community Planning, a consulting firm specializing in community planning, development, and zoning, to collect community input on the long-range plan for the township and turn it into an updated Land Use Plan and Zoning Code.  Following ten months of work, feedback, and revision both documents have started the formal review and adoption process.

Upcoming milestones:

• July 22, 9:00 a.m. – The Lucas County Planning Commission will review the proposed Land Use Plan and Zoning Code and provide feedback at One Government Center.
• July 27 – The Richfield Township Zoning Commission will hold a public hearing to review the county’s recommendations and receive additional public comments. Following the hearing, the Zoning Commission will vote on whether to forward the documents to the Township Trustees.
• Mid-August – The Township Trustees will hold a second public hearing to consider all feedback before voting on adoption of the updated Land Use Plan and Zoning Code.

A very large thank you to the community members of the committees mentioned above as well as all the residents that provided feedback through surveys, came to the open house events, and continue showing up regularly to the steering committee and zoning committee meetings.

The current version of both the proposed Land Use Plan and Zoning Code are posted on the township website.  Both are subject to change through the remainder of the process. See links below.
